More Comments About Comments

Perhaps you read my post: Some Comments About Comments back in April. In summary, fellow bloggers comments appear in Jetpack or in the WordPress dashboard, but several are not appearing in both.

So, if I’m only using the Jetpack app for a few days, I miss your comments that are inexplicably only visible in WordPress. This week, I discovered comments in Jetpack that are not visible in WordPress.

If you follow this so far, you’ll also be interested to learn that I contacted the Happiness Engineers months ago and they determined the issue was resolved. Within hours of initiating the support, they closed the ticket. That was a first. No reply from me whether the issue was actually resolved, just the assumption that it was.

I’m frustrated by this ongoing, months-long comments issue (which I will again contact WP support about), the bizarre influx of 10-30+ spam comments per post (see screenshot below), and is it just me or did the dashboard/editor change again?

One of the main take-aways from this quick post: please know your comments are valuable and I apologize to those who receive late responses.

Thanks for reading today…if you have any suggestions or similar experiences, please share.

Are these “bots” or general spam?

I bet you turn on something for receiving that “reposted this.” I dislike receiving like that, and thankfully, it didn’t appear in mine.

My comments both on jetpack and WordPress are working well.

Just my subscribe button has issues and it didn’t resolve yet

I hope your subscribe button is corrected soon. Thank you for sharing, Hazel. I appreciate your thoughts and I’m glad your comments are working correctly.

It’s been half a year that it didn’t resolve. I still hope it will be fixed soon. Thanks, Mama

That’s a long time, Hazel. I’m beginning to accept that a few WP/JP glitches will remain unresolved.

It’s been a while indeed, and I think you guess it right. It will remain unresolved. It’s not always ideal to me to click many times just to follow back.

I rarely work from the WordPress dashboard because it feels
Clunky but I guess I’d better take a look once in a while for those rare comments!

It might be worth it to jump on even once a week. I’m nearly always on JP as well. I’d be interested to know what percentage of viewers read on WP sites vs. opening published posts directly in JP.

It’s interesting that this is only happening for some users and not all, Elena. I’ve had Jetpack for several years now. I just now logged in to my WordPress account and I don’t have any comments there that I hadn’t already seen in Jetpack. Another is comments going to spam folder. Another blogger recently commented about this. I checked my spam folder and there were none. Maybe other users get more comments overall than I do. I really don’t know what it is. Sorry this is happening to you.

You are one of the few lucky ones to have zero WP/JP issues. Many write about various technical glitches. I check spam regularly but this is something else. And you are correct about specific WP accounts/comments landing in one view more than others. I looked for a pattern but it doesn’t exist. That would be too easy to troubleshoot😄.

The ones you see are from the Fediverse reposts. Fediverse is an open social network, something like non-commercial Facebook.

For whatever reason, the reposts, likes, and comments on Fediverse are added to your blog as comments. Most of these are indications that your post was auto-added to a tag on Mastodon, essentially zero usefulness.

At the same time, very few social networks allow auto-sharing, Fediverse and Bluesky, despite being very tiny, compared to Facebook, still provide real human views, likes, and comments.

Interesting about Fediverse. While attempting to problem solve this issue again a few days ago, I disabled Fediverse. I had enabled it a few months ago thinking it would be useful. Thank you for confirming where those reposts were originating from and for your helpful comments.

I have one WP.org blog that will usually (not always) post reader comments but never my replies. I have to do that through ‘Comments’. I have occasional problems commenting on WP.org blogs.

    Argh.

I use the desktop and I prefer it. The jetpack on the phone is harder for me- it’s smaller. I can type faster on the real keyboard.

I use the phone thoug to read comments in between.

Your post explains why I missed some comments too. Thanks for this.

    Have a lovely day!

I’ve had many run-ins with the happy engineers, and they can never seem to get it fixed, or right. WP relay’s on AI to a point of why the real people are even needed. I don’t use the Jetpack on my phone, just my laptop and I get most of the comments except for the ones put into spam.

Thanks, Phil. I try to bypass their AI but I’m not always successful. Since you and most others are seeing comments in both locations, I wonder what the disconnect is on my end. Both apps and the dashboard have been updated and after the abrupt closed ticket, I’m not sure it’s worth it to reach out again to the happiness engineers🤔.

It’s that AI Demon working it’s magic on us. I use and iPhone so that may have an effect. I still get your post on my laptop via WP and Jetpack.

I don’t use Jetpak so I haven’t experienced this issue. I have problems with being unable to “Like” comments (even on my own blog). The issue comes and goes. The happiness engineers eventually “fixed” it, but then it came back. I have given up on that.

Interesting that not using Jetpack and sticking with WordPress you still experience issues, particularly with liking comments. There is frustration with finally having what seems to be a resolution only to discover it comes back as you said.

Some of my regular commenters (one of them in particular) keep going into spam which is really annoying. Sorry to hear about your issues. The Happiness Engineers are often anything but.

Somewhat similar, one of my regular commenters is among the “hidden” in either WP or JP. This may be a problem that will come and go and I’ll have to monitor in both areas. lol about the engineers.

I’m old school I guess and don’t use Jetpack. Just see comments on the Dashboard. It seems the more WP changes things though, the worse the problems some of us have. Frustrating.

The time it takes to troubleshoot is another factor-whether in JP or WP. After all you went through with the photos, you understand the time. I’m considering changing my theme back to an older, free, less complicated one.
