10 At the End – July

Gratitude, happenings, observations …

1. I marveled at the multitude of fireworks displays across the sky from our new hilltop view. I felt like a Manhattan executive I know who always has a front row seat to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade from his perch high above. All the 4th’s of lugging chairs, coolers, etc., with the kids – wish we had this when they were young!

2. I deleted the one and only social media I scrolled: Instagram. I miss it but I set a goal to stay off for the remainder of summer.

3. Speaking of summer… Texas is perpetual summer. My A/C was on in February and is still rolling 24/7. I’ve been back in Texas a month and missing New York cool mornings and rain days.

4. I can easily focus gratitude upon the ‘bigger’ life happenings. The larger moments are precious and most memorable, but no less important than the daily gifts. I am thankful for breath filling my chest, provision, health, love of God and family. Thank You, Jesus.

5. A July intention was to read a chapter, poem, etc., each day. I was mostly successful with daily Bible reading and other works – I’ll share some quotes on Monday. One of my readings was studying Ecclesiastes in four different versions. Solomon’s words in this particular book have always felt very practical and relatable. A truly timeless perspective.

6. My 29-yr old daughter is leaving New York, taking a new role in coastal Florida. She’s reached a career level where movers pack her apartment as part of her generous relocation package, she’s asked if she wants airplane aisle or window seats, which hotels she prefers for travel, etc.. She did her part to earn the perks so young, but these are still God’s extra blessings.

7. I honored the 10th anniversary of my beloved friend’s passing. We were friends for two decades before she went to her forever home at 49. We shared the kids-growing-up years, had regular coffee dates and always enjoyed setting a proper table for each other. I still miss her.

8. July highlight: hearing my grandson’s heartbeat in utero.

9. It’s surreal typing the word “grandson”. I don’t feel like a grandparent but we will welcome our first in about two months. I’m praying over every detail and very excited.

10. I finally made time to have over new neighbors for dinner. We enjoyed a fun evening and I’m thankful to have nice people nearby.

May your August be filled with slow days, sweet moments and everything else you want it to be. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!

Oh Instagram and Facebook, how I wish I could quit you! 😂
I like instagram to post my pretty garden pictures but then I start scrolling and forget what I was doing.
Congratulations on the soon to be birthed grandson!
It reads like it was a good July.

Many feel like you-they would never give up social media!😄 It’s a normal part of life for most, scrolling apps before getting out of bed, checking all day and through nighttime.
Thank you!🩵 It was a good month and I hope yours was as well!

You had an exciting July! I gave up Facebook shortly after I retired and don’t miss it. Fewer people are stunned when I say I don’t have a Facebook account than initially. I do have IG to keep up with my granddaughters, but I don’t post. I do find myself following other people and periodically go through and unfollow various accounts that have “snuck” in when I realize it is stealing my time. Congratulations to your daughter on her career move and to you and your family on this upcoming birth!💜

Thanks for sharing your life! I stepped back from blogging in the beginning of the year. I only post once or twice a month. But I am on Instagram, mainly for my writing and books. I really don’t like social media, so I struggle with “should I or shouldn’t I?” 🙂 Have a great August!

When promoting books or products of any sort, social media is imperative. I know a few business owners and there is no way around using them all to get your name out there. Thank you for your kind comments and I wish you a wonderful August as well!

A lovely recap of what sounds like a very good month, Elena. Grandparenting is wonderful! Our two grandkids are grown now, but we still try to keep in contact despite their very busy lives. Enjoy and savour every moment when they’re small because the time truly flies.

I hear you, Terry. I could weep thinking about how time flies! I am sure your grandchildren appreciate you keeping in touch with them even though they are older. I’ve been listening recently to many 20-somethings talking about how they adore their grandparents🥹.

You surely had a blessed July. It does feel strange to say one is a grandparent for the first time but what an amazing role it is. You will experience a new kind of love when you hold that sweet little baby boy in your arms.
