The Humorous Poolside Quip

I was sitting by a pool watching my husband, daughter and son-in-law round up kids between 5-12yrs to play catch. The young ones laughed, splashed and were having a great time diving for squishy pool balls.

Enjoying the sunshine on a nearby lounge chair, I had a perfect view of the joy unfolding on a late summer afternoon.

There was a Mom and 9-year old girl hanging out by the edge of the pool. The girl stared at her peers every minute or so while treading water safely near her Mom.

In three different versions, the Mom gently encouraged her daughter to join in the fun. My husband waved her over at one point, but the girl ducked under Mom’s arm.

Mom gave one final nudge saying, “wouldn’t you like to go make new friends?”

The timid girl answered swiftly with raised eyebrows, “I doooo want to make new friends.” Then she wrinkled her cute nose adding, “Just not today.”

I stifled my laughter, but let it out later!

Many grown ups could relate with the adorable little one. Someone recently joked with me saying they were taking and carefully reviewing applications before accepting any new friends!

Have a great Tuesday!
