Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day,
listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the blue sky,
is by no means a waste of time.
John Lubbock, The Use of Life
This past week has been a busy one (thus missing my usual Monday post). When I read this poem yesterday, I was inspired to slow down, lay under a sprawling tree and look up at floating clouds – like Sir John Lubbock references in his poem. But when I arrived, the clouds weren’t “floating” and the sky was turning ominous.

The clouds didn’t matter…it still felt like a very ‘summery’ thing to do. I can’t recall the last time I laid on a blanket on the grass, (maybe with the kids when they were younger?). Admittedly, it felt awkward at first, but once I relaxed, that 30-minute stop in my day became a highlight.
I appreciate your visit today and hope you had a good week. I wish you a peaceful, restful summer weekend!
