One-minute read.
According to WordPress (and virtually all other tech sites), the platform is a website builder, not a social media site. WordPress is the location where you “connect social media” to your blog or website. The majority of sources point to a clear distinction between social media and WordPress.
I’m thinking it too: WordPress users like, comment and sell stuff comparable to Instagram. But, that is where the similarities end. The foundation of the platform is a content management system (CMS), making WordPress merely the host for writing, blogging and integrating with outside social media accounts, not being a social media site itself.

While WP has its own ongoing issues, I appreciate word-focused blogs. Writers who blend words together that cause us to think or elicit emotion or make us laugh are admirable. Rhyming poems, captivating short stories, thoughtful book reviews, historical posts…there is good stuff here.
The photography on WordPress is also quite remarkable. A picture really can convey 1000 words. The words, images and even occasional videos still keep WordPress slightly unique from mainstream socials.
As we settle into this new year, many WP bloggers have mentioned what they hope to write about throughout 2025. Travel shares are always enjoyable, but so are the day-to-day happenings. Most of us take what’s presently catching our attention, filling our hearts or annoying us, and sharing it with readers. We sort out some of our own stuff while reading through each other’s writings. We are reminded that we are not alone. For me, that is meaningful time spent together.
Thank you for reading.
