We never had a dog while the kids were growing up, though a beloved mini lop bunny was part of the family for 12 years, along with a tortoise, hamster and guinea pig at various times throughout their youth. Our daughter and new son-in-law brought an Australian Shepherd home last year and we have honestly enjoyed watching Maverick become part of the family!

Not having a dog growing up and knowing nothing about puppyhood, my daughter had an adjustment period during Maverick’s training! My son-in-law grew up with dogs and handled the puppy months very well. It’s not easy training a puppy!

The work was worth it. One of the sweetest parts of watching him grow this past year is how close he is to my daughter. Maverick is by my daughter’s side whether cooking in the kitchen, sitting on the couch, or working in her office. He rarely leaves her side.

When wiping something off the floor one afternoon, she stood up under the countertop, wacking her head! Laying down to ice the top of her head, Mavie knew something was wrong and snuggled himself right by her head to comfort her!
Another night when she was sad missing home (she’s my one in Texas), Maverick knew something was wrong. She had snapped the following pic to me, showing how he buried his face in her blanket and stayed there by her feet!

I was always a no-dog kind of gal. But, Maverick has opened my eyes to the blessing that a dog can be to a family. Now, I’m attached!
