Mid-Life Snoring?!

While raising my three children, the mere whisper of โ€œMamaโ€ at 2am bolted me straight up and out of REM sleep. If one of them rumbled a quiet cough, I was awake. My eyes shot open at the sound of someone streaming water from the fridge at 4am.

Like most parents, sleeping through the infant, toddler and teen years was rare. When one of us did sleep, my husband and I noticed and commented to each other how angelic we looked in slumber. Peaceful. Grateful neither of us snored! Looking back, we were just passed out cold from 18 years of 18-hr days.

Once the twins moved out of state for college, suddenly I started snoring. Literally the night after drop off. My husband carefully reported the news the third morning post-move out. โ€œI thought maybe you had a cold a couple nights ago but youโ€™re snoring.โ€

I made a face of disbelief but eventually the kids confirmed Dadโ€™s findings.

Iโ€™m told itโ€™s not snoring like a freight train and apparently, not all night but definitely in the early morning hours.

My oldest daughter announced at dinner recently, “Mom, I heard you snoring from my room the other night.” They previously said it wasn’t loud!? Embarrassing. Did I mention we were at a restaurant with a bunch of other people when she said this?

Thank God my husband added that it’s not every night.

Perhaps Iโ€™m still catching up on the sleep-depriving years of babies, teens, new drivers, first girlfriends, second boyfriendsโ€ฆ

Any chance Iโ€™ll eventually be caught up on zzzzz’s and stop snoring? Probably wishful thinking.

My daughter told me I snored the day I was going to the hospital for a procedure and would be sharing a room for several nights. Timing!!

๐Ÿ˜…Right?! Not great timing! Iโ€™m sure that was on your mind during your recovery stay.

My husband snores almost all the time, but he tells me that now and then, I do too.โ€‚And I tell him, “that’s called payback!”โ€‚Ha!

In case you haven’t thought about, it could be a type of Sleep Apnea. My hubby wears what I call a Snorkel, he has worn one for years. But he stills snores through the machine. Take good care. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thatโ€™s a bummer that he still snores through the machine but Iโ€™m guessing that the snorkel helps him breathe better which is most important.

My mother snored – she claimed she only made cute little sounds. Because that’s what my father told her. He lied. She could rattle the windows with her snoring. Currently my husband makes little puffing sounds but when he has a cold he snorts and snuffles and snores like a chain saw. He’s never complained about me making noise so I’m going to assume that I don’t often snore….. and when I do it is only cute little sounds!

Sometimes I STILL wake up with a start in the middle of the night because I think I heard one of my kids (who’ve all been out of this empty nest for almost 15 years!) call “Mom!” My hubby is a loud snorer but has been using a cpap machine for sleep apnea for many years now which has thankfully curbed his snores. ๐Ÿ™‚

Itโ€™s amazing how being a Mama lives on forever โ€ฆ still โ€˜hearingโ€™ our children in the middle of the night!!
Glad your husband has the snoring under control (for your sake๐Ÿ˜„).

I definitely sleep better now without all that loud snoring! And on those rare occasions when I “hear” one of mine calling me in the middle of the night, I say a little prayer for them. ๐Ÿ™‚
