Throughout this National Poetry Month, I have enjoyed reading countless original poems published by WordPress bloggers. I’ve also appreciated the posts offering wonderful lines from famous poets throughout history. As national poetry month wraps up, here are a few excerpts from various poems penned by Mary Oliver.
“We do one thing or another; we stay the same, or we
change.
Congratulations, if you have changed.”
To Begin With, The Sweet Grass
“I don’t want to sell my life for money.”
Black Oaks
“You listen and you know you could live a better life than you do, be softer, kinder.
And maybe this year you will be able to do it.”
North Country
“Listen, are you breathing just a little , and calling it a life?”
Have You Ever Tried To Enter The Long Black Branches
“What if you suddenly saw that the silver of water was brighter than the silver of money?”
How Would You Live Then?
“Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.”
The Old Poets of China
“Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”

I am so glad you shared these poem snippets. I especially liked your addition at the end of:
“Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”

Yes, just sometimes … not always! This week I posted poems by MT Poet Laureate, Chris La Tray. In the first of those I posted a poem about my young life. I’d love your take on it.

Thank you! I did comment on your post two days ago. It was touching and I enjoyed the photos. Did my comment go to spam?
