Late last summer, my husband was traveling for work and told me about this interesting lake he discovered near Syracuse, New York. A few weeks later, I tagged along for a quick two-day trip to see this unique find.
Green Lake, located outside of Syracuse in Fayetteville, NY is known as a meromictic lake. That means the surface and bottom waters don’t mix during seasonal changes like many other bodies of water. Green Lake and the adjacent Round Lake are considered glacial lakes, possibly containing ancient plant and animal life. Each one has easy trails that we walked.
With the very long winters we experience in the northeast, waters are often murky. This green, clear lake was truly a sight!
