Some Comments About Comments

Published by

on

Two weeks ago: I responded to nine (9!!) blogging friends, explaining that I located comments from the week prior and apologized for the delay in responding. The comments were not in spam, were not (and still not appearing) in JetPack and truly seemed to “appear” in my WP account after I had checked WP on my laptop the day before.

Since week-old comments randomly “appearing” sounds ridiculous, I assumed it was my oversight. I updated the apps and cleared cache from my laptop just to be sure.

Last Monday: When I posted on 4/13, I logged into WP for the first time in a week since I was traveling and only using JetPack. Sure enough, twelve (12!!) comments were waiting – but only two are visible in JetPack.

This time, I deleted the app, re-downloaded and cleared history again.

Comments are still not visible in the app, only in my WP account on my computer(s).

So… Anyone noticing a major shift in comments functioning in the JetPack app?

I have attempted to use the WP app several times and it’s not a useful tool. JetPack (usually) functions better overall.

In summary, it appears that viewing the actual WP account is the only true way to see all activity and those comments otherwise covered in a cloak of invisibility on JetPack.

I’m hoping this is only a short-term issue and will be rectified soon.

I have issues on Jetpack, too, but not on the comments. About subscribing bloggers because the button didn’t work.

I like the app coz it’s handy and I can scroll a lot, but a better layout is on WordPress.com really. I’m hoping that the Jetpack issues will be resolved soon, too. I think it’s everyone’s issue.

All the best to the team.

Jetpack is a great app when it’s working properly. Glitches usually work out quickly but the comment issue is taking a bit of time. Thank you, Hazel.

Weird for sure. Getting on WP isn’t always possible compared to the (usual) ease of Jetpack.

Thought it was just me. I usually read from the reader portion and just happened to see them when going to the dashboard for something as an alert notification. Normally they would have showed up in the reader notifications. Because I am bouncing around I can’t tell if there is something specific. Thanks for sharing this! ~ Rosie

It’s not only you, Rosie! Same here about ‘just happening to notice them’. Once could have been fluky, but not twice – and currently continuing.

It takes some getting accustomed to, but when you navigate to your site in jet pack, and click on comments, look at the top in the unreplied section. There, you’ll find any comments you haven’t replied to and as you do reply, they’ll be removed from that list. I didn’t like this at first, but now it seems to be more efficient than the previous way.

I’m proficient in Jetpack, they are literally not appearing. Some comments show in my WP acct that are still missing in JP. If there was a glitch two weeks ago, I would expect they would have populated by now in Jetpack. It’s been strange and taking a while, but I’m hopeful it will resolve.

When Jetpack was introduced, I heard so many negative comments about it I never used it: still don’t. My workaround was to open my blogs in Safari on my phone, and then save them as ‘favorites.’ Now, all I have to do is click one of those favorites, and I’m taken directly to my blog where I can do everything I need to do. I don’t write on my phone, but it’s great for reading and responding to comments. Easy-peasy!

The key is ‘directly to your blog’! If I’m not on the actual WP site, I’ve been sporadically missing comments for over two weeks. This is an unusually long time for something not to be resolved. Stick with what has consistently worked for you!

It just occurred to me that WP is beginning to utilize AI. Getting all of that straightened out may be part of the problem.

Hmmm, I hadn’t considered that but it would certainly make sense. My daughter had a super-weird occurance with a software program last week and I said, “they are probably testing AI!”

WP has been wonky lately and yes, on comments. I don’t use the app at all and only go to WP on either our desktop or laptop yet still have missed some comments. I’ve been going to the dashboard to check for comments.

Still missing comments directly on WP is concerning. When it’s one or two, we understand. When they appear in a pile-up, I’m wondering what happened. After so many people have expressed similar experiences, I’m assuming these issues will be a regular occurance in some form or another.

I have resorted to checking comments/spam on the blog directly because nothing else seems to work.

Yes, that appears the best for seeing all activity though a few have said even their blog account sometimes has missing comments that eventually appear. We just continue to trekk along, hoping we don’t miss anyone.

This is a WordPress/Jetpack issue, Jacqui, likely caused by more vibe coding.

WordPress is constantly changing and that make us think about give up blogging. Well, one doesn’t need to blog.

I’m not aware of having problems with comments. I use my phone almost exclusively to read blogs. Maybe I should look with a computer when I’m posting things.

I don’t have jetpack. But the issue is I get an email comment and then several days later it shows up in the reader… My phone is cheap and old and won’t let me comment on the email messages.

The comments showing up days later in the reader is peculiar. They should at least appear on your computer right away, even if not on your older phone. There is always something curious going on!

You could be right! I have a blogging friend who was told to delete 100s and 100s of photographs or WP would start charging her and she uses a free theme! It took her months and she questioned whether that was worth the effort and creating big changes of past posts.

I haven’t noticed anything involving comments although I presently gave an issue with bots and have to install Cloudflare in the next day or two.

Sometimes I find that Jetpack goes wonky and I have to either turn off my phone or reinstall it to make it work properly again. That said, you still should be able to access all your site info through Jetpack by clicking stats – more – dashboard. Click the three lines in the upper left corner and that will bring up comments. You should be able to see any pending comments or spam. Sometimes regular commenters wind up in spam and I have to fish them out of there. I hope this info helps. Cheers.

Yes, all of that has been completed twice. Jetpack is usually good, but past comments continue to be missing, though visible on the site.
Bots are increasing and many bloggers are writing about them. I’ll have to read about Cloudfare.

I’m happy to report WordPress/Jetpack fixed the problem with my comments. There is a special contact form used by Jetpack to trace down the root issue when comments go wonky, or in my case, just disappear. Within 24 hours of filling out the form, they fixed the issue. If you’re still having comment problems, MLM, please contact the Happiness Engineer and mention the need to fill out the Jetpack form for support. Support will give you the link.

You’re welcome. However, when I first posted today, it disappeared. Did you have to approve the comment? I’m still trying to solve the issue. I’ve let Jetpack know I suspect something is not 100%, so your feedback whether you had to approve may help. Thanks!
