January Snapshots

I captured this first set of pics from my Texas back porch:

New Year’s Eve at midnight ~ Multiple, amazing fireworks displays for an hour. We’re hoping this repeats on July 4th!🎆
The Wolf Moon, January 2026

The following are from my first 30 hours back in NY:

Snowy 3am arrival after several delays and a deplane/replane.
-10°F

Thank you for viewing and stay cozy this weekend!❄️

My favorite photo is the fourth. January’s often a perfect month for capturing the moon and the Belt of Venus; the lovely combination of the blue earth shadow and pink light is one of my favorite sky phenomena.

What an interesting read! You’re right about the combination of colors…spectacular sights. Based upon the total cloud cover here in NY, it doesn’t appear I’ll see the Snow Moon tomorrow. Enjoy it in Texas!

I’m amazed you were even able to get in by plane.

After delays and a re-route, I was so happy to finally land. Turbulent ride, but made it safely🙏🏻.

Glad you made it back to NY safely! Stay warm. We’re freezing in below zero temps here too and still well over a foot of snow on the ground.

Our weather is a match! Snowbanks are higher than we’ve had in years. Delightful to view through the windows, but misery for those going to work daily in these temps🥶.

The moon was such a joy to see from my windows. It’s time to learn to use my (better) camera for the new views. Thank you for your comments and have a wonderful weekend!

The chill is shocking when you step outside. Yet, everyone continues going to work and shopping (though schools have been closed for sub-zero temps). It’s been a long January in the northeast.

I guess they get used to it. I can’t imagine living that way!

Likely more snow in NY than TX but the white stuff on the ground looks similar.❄️❄️❄️

TX was a sheet of ice but straight snow here up north❄️.

The stretch of weather across a multitude of states has been rough. Another wave for the Carolinas this weekend…❄️

It has been rough, indeed. I pray the Carolinas don’t get the freezing rain that states like Tennessee got.

I have a Canon with a couple excellent lenses but these were taken with my iPhone!

I used to carry a Nikon DSL and some great lenses for it as well. Back in 2018, I started taking iPhone photography classes and I was hooked. I’ve completed several courses and they’ve all been valuable. I gifted my Nikon and lenses to our daughter.

I didn’t know such classes exist! Your daughter received a wonderful camera set. My phone camera is so good, I rarely haul the other one.
