    I love that image: “town closed like a walnut.” It’s very evocative. As for that silly clock business, I was surprised to learn multiple states already have passed legislation making daylight saving time permanent. All that’s required is for the federal government to pass the same legislation. I’m not holding my breath!

        They are on paid vacation while government employees (both military and civilians are in unpaid statuswhether working or laid off/furloughed/fired.
