Dallas Blooms!

Dallas Blooms is an annual event at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. “Named by Southern Living as one of The Best Places to See Stunning Spring Blooms Across the South, it is said to be the largest annual floral festival in the Southwest.” This year, Dallas Blooms runs from February 22 – April 13, 2025.

While my youngest daughter has permanently moved to Texas (and my visits sparked this Texas Tuesdays series), my oldest daughter decided to take a job in Dallas for a year (an hour away from her sister’s location). Dallas Blooms was one of our many Texas travels.

My daughter and I marveled at the landscaping and color coordinated florals throughout the gardens. The beauty was everywhere our eyes wandered. It was no surprise that “The Dallas Arboretum has been listed among the top arboretums in the world…”

The arboretum has 66 acres and 11 gardens that visitors can explore year-round. As New Yorkers accustomed to winter lasting until May, we appreciate the ability to walk outdoors during the winter months in Texas. When my daughter and I attended Dallas Blooms, we were sweating in our dresses (thankfully, you couldn’t ‘see’ the sweat)! It was HOT at the end of March! There is a beautiful fountain where we took photos and dreamed of jumping in the water to cool off…

Several websites list the festival as containing over 500,000 blooms and often refer to the event as the annual “tulip festival”. Tulips were plentiful, but an array of countless other floral varieties cover the ground. Where flowers weren’t planted, we enjoyed other plants and trees just as much.

If you are a flower-lover, you may recognize some of these florals on display at the festival: azaleas, daffodils, tulips, pansies, hyacinths, bluebonnets (the state flower) … the Rose Garden contains hybrid tea roses in 16 different varieties… and, the Japanese cherry trees are spectacular.

While we attended for the blooms, the arboretum offers several events throughout the year, such as their Thursdays concert series and food and wine festival.

Spending a day surrounded by vibrant color, gorgeous green lawns and slow walks was a treat. Despite the heat, I look forward to attending again.
