Texas Tuesday – The 12 Days of Drover

Christmas week, we stayed one night at the Hotel Drover, with some friends of ours who live in Dallas. Located in Fort Worth, a few steps away from the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Drover is a Marriott autograph property which creates an annual Christmas experience that our friends were very excited to share with us.

The lights throughout the inside and outside of the hotel were impressive. More below.
Notice the cowboy hat as the tree topper?

Our friends are transplants from Massachusetts and the U.K., and go to the Drover each year with their young children. Mom and Dad are well-accustomed to December cold and snow (as are we), and those were the only two missing elements in a very Texas Christmas display.

Outdoor hot cocoa, Christmas-themed drinks, smores over a roaring fire and endless strings of lights illuminating the highly festive area created great family fun. There was also a rustic elegance – Texan style – inside of the well-decorated Drover Hotel. Per the website, the hotel calls this special experience The 12 Days of Drover.

Inside of the main lobby. This Christmas-at-Drover event is something people seriously plan for…the outfits were amazing. Everything from Texas-themed elf outfits to more bling and high heels than Dolly Parton!

We participated in all activities except the Stockyards Rodeo Rink, an ice rink somehow frozen in the warm Texas air for its patrons (located on the Stockyards site). Other highlights included cowboy Santa with real reindeer, all receiving a hot stamped leather luggage tag and hard copy photo prints taken with Santa.

The pathway behind the hotel by day…
The illuminated pathway by night…
A gorgeous sitting area!

The name β€œdrover” represents people who worked in the cattle fields. β€œDroving” is the walking of livestock long distances to market or pasture. I thought this explanation from the hotel website was worth sharing…

β€œDrovers roamed the Texas plains for decades, herding longhorn cattle from the south and driving them north through Indian Territory to railheads in Kansas. Fort Worth served as the final stop on their way north and as the first chance to rest on their return back down the Chisholm Trail, bringing money that fueled the economy and a pioneering spirit that fired the soul.”

The in-room menu was even in authentic leather…everything in this hotel felt authentic “Texas”.

I would be remiss not to mention the in-house kitchen and bar: 97 West. It was delicious and again, Texas-themed!

We enjoyed the Hotel Drover at Christmas experience, especially because there were little ones with us. We were grateful for our friends invite, as we would have never otherwise heard of, nor visited this gem in Fort Worth.

Haven’t been to the Drover. Have been to the Stockyard and ridden the train. Gorgeous pictures.

Sounds like you have explored some of Fort Worth. From the mass of people who were at the Drover, it seems to be an annual tradition for many. I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures and I hope your new year is off to a good start!

My father-in-law lived with his daughter near there years ago and we went to visit them. Happy New Year. Never got to Ft Worth at Christmas.

Oh, right! I think you had mentioned that Texas connection. Even the surrounding towns were extremely decorated for Christmas. Very festive area if you ever do get there for Christmas. Thank you for the new year wishes🀍.

I’ve heard good things about this place and Momo and I plan to visit soon. Since Sundance Square has gone kaput, the Stockyards is stepping up the game. We need something like this out here in Granbury.

The Drover appears to offer special stay weekends throughout the year, so I’m sure you and your wife will have fun. The Stockyards were really enjoyable, especially since it is new to us β€” half the fun was the ability to be outdoors in DecemberπŸ˜….

We don’t get a lot of winter in this part of Texas, but we are getting a major snow storm coming Thursday and Friday. We are going to check it out.

Wow! Accumulated snow is a rare occurrence for Granbury, right? As long as you don’t have to drive in the snow, it is beautiful for (short) walks and watching out the windows!❄️ β˜ƒοΈβ„οΈ

We got hit with the Polar Express 3 years ago and had deep snow for a week. Last year we had 6 inches on the ground for 3 days, so this wont be too bad. Sometimes, winter pays us a visit, then it’s back to summer 24/7.

I have to tell my daughter snow is occasionally possible – and sometimes it actually stays on the ground a few days. Enjoy whatever is coming – while it lasts!

What a fun experience you had! I enjoyed all those neat photos. I’ve actually been to a rodeo at the Stockyards (many, many years ago), but I’ve never heard about the Drover.

There is good information online to see the list of activities when the time comes later this yearπŸŽ„. Many people in dresses and suits were also wearing cowboy hats and boots!🀠

Cute topper on that beautifully decorated tree! Looks like a rootin’-tootin’ good time! 🀠 I went ice skating during the holidays in a similar situation as the one you described – an outdoor skating rink in the warm Sonoran. Fun! Happy new year!
