Silent Sunday-Intentional Quiet

Published by

“Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands…” 1 Thessalonians 4:11

When I think of silence, gentle candle flickers come to mind.

Soft lighting in a dim room.

Steady fairy lights.

The first snowflakes serenely falling from a moonlit sky.

These quieter observations do not occur when I’m pushing harder, rushing to the next thing. I don’t absorb the warmth of gentle candlelight when the TV or music is in the background. Lucky people can zone out in a crowded, loud room. Not me. Peace doesn’t just ‘happen’. Some seasons more than others require that I’m extra-intentional about my quiet.

As we enter the exciting month of December next week, baking, shopping and wrapping are just a few things on my list (and likely, yours too). But, over the years, I’ve learned – sometimes the hard way – that silence is time well spent. It builds me up and draws me closer to the One and Only. It is He Who gives me life more abundantly. If I hope to live in abundance, the silence is required.

Wishing you a peaceful day, filled with ease and rest♥️.

Thanks for the thoughtful post! I can relate. I do not do well in noisy or hectic environments/circumstances.

Glad you could relate. I admire people who can read a book in the middle of chaos😄.

In the stillness God speaks to me. Much of early December is when I write my Christmas cards … each a personal greeting divinely inspired.

How special it is for your card recipients to receive a personal greeting. Your cards must be true blessings🎄.

And tied into silence is “Be still and know that I am God.” They go hand in hand!

We have entered the busyness of the season here. I have my inner calm and that’s enough to keep me steady… I hope you can find the silence and the peace amid the hubbub of Advent!

That’s the plan! Even if one day gets too harried, it’s wise to settle into quiet time on the next. Enjoy the beautiful Christmas season maintaining your inner calm🙏🏻.
