“The Lord will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” Exodus 14:14 Amplified

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
This scripture was pressed in black vinyl above my office door for years. In the midst of grading endless papers, writing curriculum, managing kids’ schedules on oversized calendars…I spent considerable time in my home office.
That scripture was my daily, hourly reminder to practice peace. When I raised my bum off the chair to get coffee, I read the verse. When I got up again for an Amazon delivery, I read the verse.
Being still is challenging for me. Though I didn’t consciously label it throughout the child-rearing years, stillness felt like meaninglessness. Wasted time. Last Silent Sunday (Silence Whether I Wanted it or Not), I shared how being robbed of motion became a blessing and ultimately, a fresh start.
Stillness is counter-cultural. As mentioned previously, although believers are not of this world, we are in it and should be fully engaged. After all, He placed us here for such a time as this. However, I must not get so caught up in the action that I miss where the true power resides. In the quiet…in the still…is where deepest growth occurs, increasing confidence when reentering the world.
On this Sunday, I wish you the silent stillness that refreshes, prepares and empowers us for the next busy week to begin…
