Somber Sunday, Hopeful Monday

I came across the following words today, stated by actress Shannen Doherty of the 1990’s television show, Beverly Hills 90210. She died on Saturday at 53-years old.

“I don’t want to die,” she heartbreakingly told People at the time. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” Doherty continued. “I’m just not — I’m not done.” (New York Post, 7/14/2024)

Even into old age, most of us want more time…

“Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.” Psalm 90:12 CEV “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 NLT

We tend to complain about Mondays. After this weekend where a beloved father lost his life, an assassination attempt occurred on a former President, and no doubt you had your own frustrations and emotions, Monday is looking good right now. Moving forward, fresh start, hopeful that tomorrow will be better than yesterday.

If you’re reading this, you and I are still here because God has more to do in us and through us. He’s not done.

How blessed we are to have this time… to really live.

“…His mercies begin afresh each morning.”  Lamentations 3:23 NLT

Welcome, Monday.

So many of the famous have passed this week and the attempt on Trump’s life is just the capstone to the mayhem. I hope to live long enough to be able to say, “I’m ready God, I’ve loved and lived and done all you asked. I’m ready to go home.”

How amazing a life-in longevity, accomplishments, and in loving others… yours is a beautiful hope and prayer that many of us share.

She put up a fight and showed us how to push forward in life regardless of our battle. She brought many people in on the fight as well.

It’s a terrible, horrible disease we all pray would be eradicated.

How heart-breaking are Shannen Doherty’s words. But I am even more heartbroken over the senseless tragedy which happened Saturday in our neck of the woods. Personal connections have made my emotions run the gamut from shock, disbelief, anger, and then tears of sadness. But we must put our trust in our Savior above all.

It must be difficult for you having so many personal connections in your home state where this unconscionable act occurred. Agreed – we trust in Jesus above all.

Our daughter is a nurse in that hospital, She had finished her shift and was home when it all happened. One of her co-workers is close to the family who lost their loved one in this senseless tragedy. His family lives in our vicinity, so naturally our area is quite shaken and saddened.

Oh my gosh. This is heartbreaking. You mentioned having so many emotions – I cannot imagine the deep pain of your community and the connections you/your daughter have throughout these areas. Throughout all of this coverage I keep saying, “someone lost their beloved dad and husband”….so unacceptable, unspeakable, avoidable. I’m so sorry for all of you in that vicinity. It makes this all the more personal.
