10 At the End – January Gratitude

This is a list of 10 things I’m thankful to have enjoyed or accomplished in month one of 2025.

The list below is less exciting than what I expected to share at the outset of this month. I was sidelined a bit with my back leading to more reading, less activity and many fun things crossed out on the calendar. Still, I count myself blessed…

  1. Celebrated my twins 28th birthday.
  2. A nice dinner with my son’s future in-laws.
  3. Watched my daughter play volleyball.
  4. Read a 493-page memoir; reread half of Norman Vincent Peale’s Power of Positive Thinking.
  5. My prayer-warrior friend texted me prayer for my back…at a lonely moment when I really needed the love.
  6. My son brought his (and his fiancée’s) puppy to visit nearly every day.
  7. Listened to the books of Genesis, Job, Matthew, much of Psalms, most of Exodus.
  8. My youngest in Texas FaceTime’s at least once a day, texts multiple times… updating me on work meetings and entertaining me with lighthearted stuff like all the Blake Lively drama…
  9. My twins attended a sporting event together. This made me absurdly happy. They rarely spend time together with their busy lives.
  10. Snowfall paused, temps have reached 35F and I’m grateful to be able to go for a short walk!

MLM, it is interesting to contemplate “getting rid of the life we planned so we can live the life that is waiting for us.” There are often better things or lessons awaiting us than what we anticipate and we also have skills/hopes/dreams that will never materialize unless we provide them with opportunities. I like to write. While I never pursued it enough to try to make a living from it, I was successful in using that talent as part of my jobs and in retirement, it provides me with a wonderful pass time.

You are fortunate to have used your writing talent both at work and for pleasure. It’s a beautiful gift♥️.
I agree that we need to be open to plans changing. Regardless of my plans, God has His direction and it’s always better – even though it doesn’t feel like it in the moment🙃.

Yes, and we traveled for Christmas so the holiday season seemed to linger a bit longer after we returned.

It makes the hard stuff easier when we look at what we are thankful for. I think many are thankful February is here and hoping the year gets better and better. Hope your back is doing better. I’m familiar with back pain.

I know a few people that are happy January is behind them-the fresh start to the new year turned in unwanted directions. I’m sincerely sorry you’re familiar with back pain. I have deep compassion for anyone experiencing it.
