The Chatsworth House, Derbyshire Dales

The Chatsworth House, located in Derbyshire was a true highlight of our time in England. The acres of gardens along with the 1000+ park acres are simply stunning. Being there during autumn made it extra special, as my youngest and I both celebrated our birthdays “across the pond”.

The home and grounds were well worth the long train ride, followed by a taxi to the remote location. We stayed overnight in town, giving us two days to explore. While the house and its contents are beyond impressive, I could have strolled the land for days, breaking only to sleep and read books. This post contains images from in and around the house, while additional grounds photos are yet to come.

While planning our vacation, my youngest reminded me that the extraordinary Chatsworth House was a must-visit while in England. We both love the movie Pride and Prejudice and Chatsworth is Mr. Darcy’s house in the film.

Having a break from the hustle of London was timely during the middle of our trip. We walked and walked the grounds – not all of the dales in Derbyshire, but we did our share. One path was as gorgeous as the next and the silence was refreshing.

How I enjoyed this post!! Your photos brought back lovely memories. I was there in the early 80’s. I have a photo of children on the lawn, probably mine and my brother’s. If I have time, I’ll look. My brother will be here tomorrow, along with his wife. They are favorite people.

I’m so glad this brought you happy memories! I’d love to see those photos. You are blessed to call your brother and sister in law “favorite people”☺️💗. I’m assuming they made the time to visit you while you lived in England. Having all your children together was very special!

Bob’s first wife died of cancer in her early 40’s. They had their flight reservations to England before we moved! She was dead before a year had passed. She was a favorite person. Years later he met Beth who had been widowed for as long as he had. They are a marvelous couple, now married 20+ years. She became a favorite person as soon as I got to know her. She was a perfect pastor’s wife.

Your brother’s life (and I’m sure your entire family) was afflicted with terrible sadness, but knowing you all received Beth with great love, makes this beautiful. Your brother booking those tickets to see you even before you moved was a great expression of love.

I looked through the old photos. Had the “worth” part right. The picture I remembered was taken at PETworth, not CHATSworth. I have only one photo of Chatsworth, taken from a distance. It doesn’t include people.

Ohhhh, easy to mix them up! I just researched online and Petworth looks like another beautiful place in England. Thank you for sharing about your time there with your family and for searching out your photos!

My favorite Pride and Prejudice movie. Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful pictures. The statue of the woman with a veil covering her face is amazing. The countryside is gorgeous. Wow.

Matthew Macfadyen is my favorite Mr. Darcy, stoic, aloof, certain of his place in society and then comes along Elizabeth. That flex of his hand was one of the most amazing screen shots. Then his befuddlement. Once he’s chosen his path, his aristocratic air of certainty takes over with a new touch of humility, not humiliation but humble. 🙂

Oh my goodness, like you, we are huge admirers of Matthew Macfadyen in this role…and that hand flex!!🥰 My daughter researched that he did it reflexively, the camera caught it, and that was not planned. One of many iconic scenes♥️.

Thanks for the enjoyable photos! The nobility’s advantages were quite a contrast to the common folk.

Imagine the servants (common folk) who had to care for the house and its contents! Whew, that must have been a lifetime of hard work. Thank you for viewing the photos!
